The work showcases a marked improvement in writing, evidencing an evolved and more sophisticated style. Intentional, clever prose is admirable, exhibiting both thoughtfulness and deliberation. Overall, the piece demonstrates a high level of maturity in its composition.

"A somber, lovely understanding of change and all that comes with it. Part of the fun of reading this is, within the sly sense of humor that you carry lies the meditation that sinks it gently back into reality. Well done."

I can't tell you how much it means and how beautiful it is. Beautiful is an understatement, and I'm no poet as you are. However, I do notice the shift you mention in terms of the writing, particularly given the collections I read last year. I have to say, I really admire the way your mind works and how it is spilled (thoughtfully...deliberately...intentionally...cleverly) on the page.
There were some lines and poems that were really, really hard to read. And they were real. You explained (from what I can tell) your own brand of happiness. So I will say this: you might not be happy in the way I (a collective I?) think; however, you are seemingly happy in a way different than before the events you mentioned last year. And that gives me hope. |
"A professional and visual tour de force of dreams and emotion. The way you play with language is sublime, and each poem seems to hide it's true intentions. It is clear— based on the tone of this collection— that you have learned how to heal."
"Hauntingly provocative. Each poem is a fractal, a candle: when put together, they share contexts and create a beautiful and emotive narrative."
"A self-aware, scaled back collection. You again prove the redemptive value of adversity.... with allusions to the natural world and lamentations about your past, this collection is hopeful, wistful, floaty, and free."
"With furled up fists, you've beaten every word and phrase out; each sentence reads forcefully and dramatically. Painful but achingly eloquent."
"Visceral, and sometimes aggressive existential plots.... the title captures it perfectly. A war lost to identity and false hope. The titular poem is a monolith of love and loss, of innocence, and youthful evenings."
" I just want to reiterate how powerful and beautiful your poetry is. It's lyrical in quality, it is raw, and it is also rife with allusions and images and emotion. You have a clever way with words and both their literal meaning and their innuendo, and taken as a collection, this weaves a beautiful yet emotional yet painful yet lovely story."
"The last five poems in this collection are your best so far. They radiate warmth... This collection, despite it's brevity, is massive, majestic, and extremely apt."
"You slide in surreal, avant-garde-styled messages about the world.... you hide stories within rhymes and singalong poetry. "After Dark" is my favorite.. just like the night it described, I hoped the poem would never end."
"They're really lonely, but very engaging. Your style has developed tremendously."
